Children's writing: using exclamation marks - by Adrian

11.01.22

What an action-packed Sonic story full of accurately used exclamation marks, Adrian, including using them for speech and for noises. It's a great technique to start your writing with action and sound. Well done! I also spotted two similes – It ran like a tiger or even a zebra. / Sonic ran as fast as lightning. Fabulous and thank you for sharing!

To help other children, here is a list of ways we can use an exclamation mark in this type of story:

  • What a calamity! What a mess!
  • How strange it was!
  • “Meoooow!” it cried. “Meoooow!”
  • Bang! Crash!
  • Get down!
  • Oops!

Let's read your super story!
