How to triple the action in a story sentence.

18.05.23

In my last post, we looked at how to quickly improve the vigour in an 11+ story by doubling the action for a character in one sentence.

Once you’ve got that, have a go at writing Tip 2 …

Triple the action!

Skill: Triple the action in just one sentence.

Think: When I write about a character doing something, tell the reader three things they do in the sequence.

Example using the picture on this post.

Character + action + action + action

Feldhald took each step slowly, reached the plateau, and surveyed her new kingdom.

Challenge

Turn these ‘one action’ sentences into ‘THREE action’ sentences.

Remember, the second and third actions must move the story forward and give the reader more details.

  1. He appeared at the door, __________ , and ______________ .
  2. Gretal brought her sword above her head, _____________, and ___________ .
  3. They gathered their belongings, ____________, and _________________________ .

I hope you find this helpful to up-level your story action!
